Although a typical beach destination, Mauritius packs in a large number of attractions. Just to give you an idea, you can devote a day each to the North Island and South Island trips. These eight to nine hour trips usually cost Rs 5000+ per head but can be customised depending on what you want to see and your budget. In Port Louis, the capital city, you can visit the picturesque boulevard Places D’Armes, Fort Adelaide, and Aapravasi Ghat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hotels in Port Louis cost Rs 6,000 upwards. For dining and shopping, visit the Caudan Waterfront of Port Louis. The Île aux Cerfs, a tad crowded, is another must visit. Flic en Flac is a typical public beach with hosts of restaurants, souvenir shops and budget accommodation (Rs 3000 upwards). You can stay in Mauritius’ second most important city, Mahébourg for a couple of nights at around Rs 3000 per night. The city is known for its beaches, street food and a buzzing Monday market. Captain Nemo’s Undersea Walk (underseawalk.8k.com) is a unique opportunity to walk underwater; carry your swimming costume and towel; helmets, weight belts, etc will be provided. You can go kayaking, trekking, dolphin watching, etc. Take a ride in the Blue Safari submarine or sub-scooters (www.blue-safari.com). For more attractions and things to do, see www.mauritius.net. Hotels.com (in.hotels.com) has a list of hotels suitable for different budgets and often offer a discount for online booking. Most hotels offer special packages to honeymooners.
