Just when we were planning to go on a healthy diet, we get this invitation for a visit to TADO, The Artisan and Deli Oven at Vivanta by Taj Surajkund.
Well, why go to Surajkund for bakes do I hear you asking? But let me tell you that the drive to Vivanta by Taj could be a fabulous way to round up a romantic date. The neighbourhood is quite peaceful and soothing. And oh, a slice (or two or three) of that red velvet cupcake with yummilicious (the only way I can say yummy and delicious at one go) cream frosting doesn’t cost much. Yes, we are serious. TADO, has the exquisite feel and décor of a five star hotel, but the prices are reasonable enough. The pastries are just Rs 75 per piece. On the ground-floor of Vivanta by Taj, tucked in a quiet corner, TADO is a glass-walled bakery which will be soon expanded to a larger outdoor seating area (yes, they are keeping your romantic date in mind) as the existing space can accommodate only 12-15 people.
Most of the sweets at TADO are creatively presented which would make you want to eat all of them. Not to mention their diverse variety—ranging from Red velvet to Baklava, to Tiramisu cake, from cheesecakes to Mille Feuille. One could not complain about the Marble baked cheesecake, which definitely lived up to its gorgeous display. There are a few more things equally rewarding such as a refreshing glass (okay, maybe more than one) of a well-made beverage especially if it’s just for Rs 100. The cucumber and lemon- flavoured water didn’t have a particularly striking after-taste, the strawberry and cookie shake was a perfectly balanced mix of sweet chocolate and tangy berries. We would suggest visiting the place at least once, only to try a glass of their lemon and cinnamon flavoured iced tea. That drink is sure to remind you of the summer cooler. And then don’t blame us if you land up at the bakery again. To go with the beverages, there was a tasteful display of fruits and cheeses. Fuelled by an ever-present desire to try the different kinds of cheeses, we tried a slice or two. It wasn’t the best decision we made, umm, we should have stuck to some crusty, freshly-baked bread instead.
The savouries at TADO include stuffed pita bread, chicken quiches, canapés, open mini sandwiches and puffs. The bakery, operating under the aegis of Chef Ganesh Joshi, has an all-inclusive menu encompassing various varieties of cakes, pies, mini sandwiches, cheeses, breads and beverages.
TADO’s usage of organically cultivated grains, pure honey and in-house preparation of fruit mixtures form part of its appeal. You can also share TADO’s goodies with your near and dear ones by choosing from a variety of gift hampers. The bakery offers both dine-in and take away options. By the end of the day, we were not just eating cakes and cupcakes; we were decorating and icing them too. On the whole, TADO definitely makes a charming addition to Vivanta by Taj.
