It’s an exciting feeling to walk into the pages of a book—literally. Roseate House, a unique and contemporary business-cum-leisure hotel in New Delhi’s Aerocity, promises just that. You walk in to find bits and pieces of text printed on the walls, the presence of design motifs that try to symbolise everything from the spine to the covers, and even the central characters—people who walk in and out of Roseate House. This is not me talking, but what Thukral & Tagra, the artist duo known for their interactive art projects (such as this), had in mind while overlooking the hotel’s design. But that’s not all. Are you someone who enjoys reading, but not without a refreshing cuppa? I know I am. And that’s where Roasted, Roseate House’s recently-inaugurated patisserie and tea lounge, comes in.
You enter the hotel, take a left and walk along the corridor until you find the open lounge. Its colour-scheme is a rich bronze and the circular tables are surrounded by grey chairs on one side and similarly coloured sofas on the other. Sunlight is welcomed in from the wall-sized window providing a garden view. There’s a well-equipped counter with fancy coffee and tea-related machines and wooden jars containing numerous varieties lined across shelves behind. Over all, it’s a pretty sight.
But more than any of that, what’s exciting is that Roasted serves tea from the prestigious TWG. I first tested the Singapore tea brand, which stands for ‘The Wellbeing Group’, in Macau in 2016. Did I like it there? Yes.
Did I like it here? We were handed a little pamphlet with today’s assortment of teas—Singapore Breakfast tea, Jasmine Queen tea and Alfonso tea—and were soon served these with snacks and macaroons. The breakfast tea was tangy, and it had my favourite ‘teagredient’, cinnamon, along with the close-second ginger, mixed with loose-leaf black tea and loose-leaf green tea. Jasmine was simpler and milder. Alfonso, with its marigold and mango pieces, was a nice blend. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed three teas I had never tasted before—and I’m more of the chai kind.
So, did I like it here? YES!
Next, I ordered some cappuccino, which turned out to be creamy and smooth—just the way I like it. They serve Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters’ coffee, which is an artisanal roastery based in Delhi and Mumbai.
By the end of it, it was safe to say that executive pastry chef Anand Panwar, the man behind the menu, has created a sort of heaven for the tea and coffee connoisseur. Oh, and did I mention his snacks (do try the chicken and wild mushroom quiche and as many flavours of macaroons as your sugar tolerance allows) cannot be missed?
