The popularity of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta today belies its humble beginning in 1972 with only 13 hot-air balloons. The festival is held in New Mexico’s largest city, Albuquerque; this year, the festival—with the theme Where Dreams Take Flight—will be held from October 3-11, 2015. Said to be one of the most photographed events, with over 500 hot-air balloons lifting off from the Balloon Fiesta Park during the festival. Nearly a hundred balloons are expected to have unique shapes. Watch out for exciting balloon-related activities, such as the Balloon Glow when all the hot-air balloons fire their burners and light up at the same time. This is followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Besides, there will be balloon memorabilia on sale, stalls selling New Mexican food, musical performances, etc. Visitors can go for paid balloon rides too.
