Celebrity Cruises has just not stopped at introducing the Celebrity Edge, the first of its Edge-class ships. The cruise line has partnered with Malala Fund and Education for girls, by naming human rights activist and Nobel Laureate Malala Yousufzai as the ship’s godmother.. According to the company, the young lady is a beacon of hope for the downtrodden and the oppressed, and has the tenacity to stand up for what she believes in. As Richard D. Fain, Chairman of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, the parent company of Celebrity Cruises, said, she is an ‘honest to god hero’. Celebrity Cruises have made a significant donation to the Malala Fund, the company said in a release.
Celebrity Edge excels in terms of concept, architecture and aesthetics, claims the cruise company. It has introduced the concept of called infinite staterooms which allows the entire room to be taken right next to the vast sea’s edge, just at the click of a button. It is said to be the first ship to be designed and revealed in 3D and features the Magic Carpet, the world’s first cantilevered venue on sea featuring 13 stories and the size of a tennis court. Then there are the Iconic Suites, suites perched high atop the ship that offer panoramic views of the sea and the faraway land.
The food aboard Celebrity Edge is prepared by Michelin-starred chef Cornelius Gallagher and offered through fine dining restaurants such as Windjammer, Luminae, Sushi on Five, Tuscan Grille, etc. The resort deck is equipped with a jogging track, a Solarium and a rooftop garden.
Celebrity Edge will showcase the documentary ‘He Named Me Malala’ on the in-cabin TVs. In the near future, the book I Am Malala will also be available on Celebrity Edge, sales proceeds from which will go directly to the Malala Fund. Celebrity Edge is partnering with this fund to help raise money and better the lives of more than 130 million girls battling oppression, lack of education and abuse.
Celebrity Edge will undertake its maiden voyage in December 2018, pre-bookings for which have already started.
