Named after Sikkim’s famous flower, the rhododendron, the three-day long tourism festival in west Sikkim aims to popularise the lesser known destinations of the area through a range of nature- and adventure-based activities. Cultural shows, organic food stalls, display and sale of medicinal herbs, exhibition and sale of local handicrafts, fashions shows are some of the highlights of the festival. Organised by the Maneybung Dentam Apex Tourism Development Co-operative Society, the first Dentam Rhododendron Festival will be held between March 28 and 30, across various destinations, viz. Uttarey, Dentam, Hee-Bermiok, Changay etc. Further, the festival will focus on the need to protect and conserve the biodiversity and the 19 species of rhododendrons found in this part of the region and to provide economic benefit to local populace through sustainable tourism.
