The Maldives’ twenty-six atolls are a favourite with holiday makers for the tropical warmth and tranquillity they afford; the flip side has been the difficulty of access for remote resorts, necessitating an hour-long (or longer) journey by sea plane and then another by boat to get home to their hotel from the capital, Malé. The new Kooddoo domestic airport should help, especially those headed to southern atolls, being itself set on Gaafu Alifu, a 45-minute flight from the international airport, being served by the national carrier Maldivian twice a day.
