At the southern tip of West Bengal, where the river Ganga meets the Bay of Bengal sea, lies Gangasagar. Every year, on the day of Makar Sankranti, pilgrims – commoners to ascetics – gather here for a holy dip in the confluence to wash away their sins and pay their respect to the presiding deity of Kapil Muni. Today, the fair attracts a lot of travellers and photographers too. Usually, visitors stay on boats or in the transit camps set up here. West Bengal Tourism offers one night – two days package tours where you travel and stay in a launch.
