It’s the world’s largest free literary festival and it keeps growing bigger and better! The eighth edition of what’s now called the Zee Jaipur Literature Festival has a line-up of nearly a hundred distinguished writers, including Nobel Laureate Sir V.S. Naipaul, 2013 Man Book Prize winner Eleanor Catton, novelists Hanif Kureishi and Amish Tripathi, American travel writer Paul Theroux, Hindi poet Kedarnath Singh, author-translator Arshia Sattar, dramatist Girish Karnad and German children’s author Cornelia Funke. Co-directors Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple say this may well be one of the strongest international lists they have ever fielded at Jaipur. This year’s festival has a strong emphasis on poetry, and focuses on the literature of South Asia and Northeast India in particular, adding up to a fantastic diversity of voices. If you can’t make to Jaipur for the fest, you can watch some of the programmes on the official website of Zee Jaipur Literature Festival.
