Steep air fares pinch even more when a family travels with children. Airline discounts come as a godsend in such cases. No such luck any more on flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi from India operated by Jet Airways and Etihad Airways, two carriers that recently forged an alliance. Both have scrapped the 25 per cent fare discount given to children aged between 2 and 11 years on direct flights between Abu Dhabi /Dubai and India. So a toddler’s ticket will now cost the same as that of an adult. The discount cancellation was effective from June 16, said a Jet spokesperson. However, on other international routes, the discount was still being offered, the rep said. For infants (0-2 years), it is still the same policy: a ticket costs 10 per cent of the basic fare. Jet has now started using Abu Dhabi as its stopover point for international flights after the tie-up with Etihad.
