Go ‘Treasure Hunting’ in Macau as the autonomous region’s Cultural Affairs Bureau holds the 17th Macau City Fringe Festival from January 12 to 21, 2018. The main idea is to let the local residents as well as visitors discover the city’s treasures and explore overlooked values in the interaction between people.

Some of the key attractions of the Macau City Fringe Festival are ‘Jin-Tang – departing from a name’ where the audience takes a peek at the most intimate anatomy of an individual’s life experience through body language and instant synthetic images; ‘Idiot – Syncrasy’, presented by Igor and Moreno from the UK, uses rhythmic body movements and common elements of two ethnic dances; ‘My Old Man is a Bus Driver’, presented by Dream Theater Association, takes the audience on a two-hour drive with a retired bus driver, wandering around areas of Macau that have likely been forgotten.

At the ‘Auction of Love Stories’ the public can submit items and love stories for auction; ‘Niyaro: Yearning for Homeland’, calls for the identity recognition through chanting, dancing and ritual ceremonies at Hac Sa Beach; and ‘You Can Sleep Here’ converts streets into beds and invites the public to gather in abandoned public places.

The ‘Fringe Intelligence Division’ will train Fringe reporters who, under the guidance of instructors from Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan, will be able to learn about the different methods of cultural and art production works and explore the possibility to create local media dedicated to arts and culture.
