Get ready to groove to some great music, as the annual Delhi Jazz Utsav (jazzindiacircuit.com/jazzutsav) is here. Prepare for an evening of jazz on February 19, at One Golden Mile in Netaji Nagar. This year, there will be four ensembles at the festival, including The Matteo Fabroni Trio. The trio, which features bandleader Matteo Fabroni on drums, the India-based Cypriot guitar player Odysseas and Italian bassist Gianluca Liberatore, play a signature mix of jazz and traditional bossa nova. Another trio, the Indian experimental music project Aman Kartikeya Pranai, focus on improvisational interplay and dynamics. It features bandleader Aman on piano, Kartikeya Srivastava on drums and Pranai Gurung on guitars.
The jazz duo Smiti and Adhir are made up of vocalist Smiti Malik and guitar player Adhir Ghsh. The duo repertoire of standards includes jazz, blue and swing. The headliner this year will be the American jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan. He’s had a glittering career, with bestselling albums and starring roles in various side-projects. A Grammy nominee and critically acclaimed guitar player, he has also played with the likes of Phil Lesh, The Dave Mathews Band and Quincy Jones. His Blue Note album Magic Touch topped the Billboard Jazz charts for a record 51 weeks in 1985. In all, February 19 promises to be quite a show. Tickets are for ₹1,500 and can be bought online here.
