The 16th-century Amer Fort is one of the most mesmerising sights in Rajasthan. Walk up its steep access ways and under its arches, and you will feel as if you’ve stepped back in time, and you will never want to wrench yourself away from its confines. Except, of course, when the outside temperature is 50° Celsius, and it gets all hot and sweaty, ruining not only your clothes, but also your trip.

Thankfully, there’s someone in Jaipur who’s been listening. In this case, it’s the Department of Art and Culture, who have started ‘Night Tourism’ in the city to make sightseeing during the summer months more bearable.

And what better place to launch the initiative than Amer Fort? Colourful lights of different intensities have been installed in Jaleb Chowk, Diwan-e-Aam, Mansingh Mahal and Sheesh Mahal within the fort, making for quite a dazzling display. Restaurants and coffee shops will add to the experience. We just can’t wait to go…
‘Amer by Night’ open 7pm-10pm; Rs 100 per person
