Okay, here’s the deal: If you have to live cheaply in Delhi and must stay in Paharganj, and don’t want to completely slum it, there is one hotel that stands out as an appropriate choice. It is, however, under renovation, and may not reopen for at least another year, but doesn’t hurt to know that it’s there. Airlines, an old Art Deco hotel on Qutab Road, is handy for New Delhi Railway Station if you’ve got a super-early morning train to catch, yet an oasis of a calm a stone’s throw from the main bazar and Old Delhi. It may not be fancy, but it is a safe, quiet and reliable place, the staff are helpful, and there’s bar service (guest only) and wonderful aloo parantha on the breakfast menu.
