Like every year, a new sun rose to mark the Solstice in Japan, on December 22, 2014. Tokyo boasts a fresh slice of peace in 2015, with Amanresorts’ first city property — now that the Delhi address is dead in its books. It does seem to have taken a page — or at least a pool plan — out of what is now the Lodhi. Every chamber is equipped with a city-view furo (soaking tub), just the plunge pool every suite at the Aman Delhi used to have.

The Aman Tokyo is taking its lofty plans quite literally too, occupying the top six stories of the Otemachi Tower, with an atrium that rises all through the well of it to resemble the inside, apparently, of a reed-ribbed paper lantern. And the wide blocks of wood are camphor. How’s that for a signature Zen lobby fragrance?

You better be feeling Zen about your bank balance, too, of course — prices start at JPY 75,000, before suffering a 20% tax on top. More stunning images at amanresorts.com
