Opened just over six months ago, following extensive renovation under a new management, this airy Dutch colonial-style villa set in an orchard of mango trees and palms within the Unesco-protected Galle Fort was once a cinnamon factory belonging to Hayleys, one of Sri Lanka’s oldest trading companies. Owners Hugh and Sophie, who are keen on organic living, have lovingly restored the old-worldly architecture with funky, modern twists – so handmade terracotta floor tiles and bespoke furniture compliment exclusive pattern designs and carefully crafted lighting. Best of all, they are affordable!

Tariff: $79-109, plus 10% service charge, inclusive of breakfast.
