We have long had a soft spot for the sheer span and opulence of the flagship Tree of Life resort over at Jaipur, so we have high expectations for their latest little addition—Jaagir Lodge, serving Dudhwa National Park, about 4.5 hours from Lucknow, 30 minutes from the Nepal border. Accommodation ranges from three luxury rooms through three suites and six ‘jhaalas’ (private villas). The rooms and suites sit in the main lodge, dating back to the 1940s, while the jhaalas are scattered around the property. Meals eschew the mundanity of buffets and number a sumptuous five a day. Subtended by sugarcane and mustard fields, this is an underappreciated spot to trail the tiger, but also a fine space to find a one-horned rhino in residence.
