Fish, fruit, falls — just three of the reasons to check into a mud hut in the Himalaya. But the hosts Christopher, Shefali and their dogs are the best reason of all, despite the locational bait for keen anglers. The property sits on the Tirthan, near Gushaini, and the fishing is fabulous. An hour’s trek away, the falls are beautiful any time of year. And the orchards fruitful all year too — late fall has persimmons and limes weighing down the boughs just now. There’s a wood-fired pizza and barbecue and tandoor in the kitchen. Accommodation includes eco cabins as well as family-sized ethnic huts and suites in the stone cottage.
