The bliss begins even as the speeding miles take me away from Delhi. I begin to switch off as soon as I hit the Yamuna Expressway that runs me to Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort, the Thailand-based Six Senses Spa’s first Indian address. Inside the gates is a verdant oasis — the expansive 18-hole golf course designed by the Greg Norman Golf Course Design Company is a delight to behold. The chic traditional-minimalistic spa beyond — so spacious — quickly engages my remaining senses. The aroma of jasmine, the staff’s warmth and the Indian-style courtyards around sunbathed water features begin to chase the stress out already.

Six Senses’ largest property in the world is relaxation heaven spread over three floors and 90,000 sq ft. It offers every possible route to repose, some for the first time in India. Beyond the usual sauna, Jacuzzi and gym lie Turkish hammams, colonic hydrotherapy equipment, meditation cave and Watsu (water shiatsu) pool. Traditional Thai restorative practices and our own time-tested Ayurvedic ways meld in a mind-boggling menu of nearly 150 treatments, flavoured with marigold, asoka, jasmine, tamarind, castor and pomegranate, and featuring result-oriented therapies like reiki, qi qong and Chinese cupping.

Now that my head is spinning from the tour, it is time to rebalance my senses — all six. I am packed off on a Sensory Spa Journey. After greeting me with a luxurious foot bath, two therapists execute a unique facial cleansing ritual and body massage in tandem. Unbelievably soothing, their long strokes ease and lull me into somnolence. I emerge out of escapism rather grudgingly an hour and twenty minutes later. Since they lay great store by relaxation in this spa experience, I curl up by one of the pools with a refreshing cup of ginger tea and a book — bliss successfully extended. Soon a raw-food cafe will be up and running, completing the restorative facilities.

The spa’s one supposed drawback — distance — seems to me a blessing in disguise. Letting me get away for a day in both body and spirit. And return to reality rejuvenated. My bliss is complete.
