At just a kilometre from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, the new JW Marriott Hotel Mumbai Sahar can’t get any more convenient for location. And it is determined to be a great antidote to cramped airplane cabins by being expansive—the area’s largest hotel at 585 rooms and the largest rooms too at 413 sq ft, which is a whole other level of luxury in this space-is-money city.
Also on the premises are a duplex Executive Lounge with meeting rooms attached; two fully staffed business centres; 10,350 sq ft of ballroom; 12,900 sq ft of lawn for hire; and Asia Pacific’s first JW Spa with therapies designed to Calm, Renew, Indulge or Invigorate. The F&B menu includes a home-style Italian restaurant; the now well-tried Baking Company outlet with fresh baking, homemade ice creams and a great choice of beverages, with a local flair; the Lounge that plays chic café and tea room by day, with sliders for a sociable luncheon; and the modestly named jw Cafe, really an all-day restaurant with multiple sections—Japanese, Thai, European, North Indian, South Indian—and al fresco seating.
The lobby looks grand, calming yet crystalline enough for celebrity backdrops. The rooms (from Rs 8,650 a night; www.marriott.com) look quietly elegant, in restful pale neutrals and pastels, with huge bathrooms spilling right into the living space. There is even an airport shuttle, oh joy! We can’t wait to check in and hit the snooze button.
