A haven near turtle sanctuary Rekawa, the new Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle welcomed its first guests last month. Sited in a 21-acre coconut plantation on the seaside, the 152-room resort includes 32 private villas (one or two bedrooms), with plunge pools and Bose sound systems, and six F&B venues. The most interesting of these is yet to come, a Sri Lankan-flavoured teppanyaki joint. Till then, Il Mare by the cliffside is serving up fresh catches straight from the local fishermen with pasta on the side, El Vino has a wine degustation menu as well as tapas, and the lobby lounge lays out a Sri Lankan style of high tea. And of course the all-day dining Journeys traverses Far to Middle Easts, with Lanka as its mainstay. The spa includes a dedicated reflexology centre, our editor’s favourite treat, as well as a hair and beauty bar, and of course ayurveda too. We suggest arriving by seaplane (courtesy Cinnamon Air) from Bandaranaike to Dickwella, a 10-minute drive.
