VFM: Ginger New Delhi
It’s hard to travel to a city or town in the country these days and not encounter a Ginger hotel. The forerunner of quality budget accommodation, this brand was introduced in 2004 to fill a gaping hole in the market. A stone’s throw from New Delhi Railway Station, the 108-room hotel scores not only for its location but also for its amenities: simple but clean rooms, Wi-fi, gym, a restaurant and so on.

BED & BREAKFAST: Sai Villa
Given the proliferation of B&Bs in the capital, one would think it would be impossible to pick just one. Wrong. While most can compete on location and the luxuries they offer, their prices are enough to make you consider an upscale hotel. Located in Greater Kailash II, this place has six homey bedrooms with ACs and ensuite bath-rooms. There’s also a lovely garden terrace — perfect for relaxing or reading.
