Laird’s lady’s lair: Blythswood Square
Built in 1823, and formerly the home of the Royal Scottish Automobile Club, its current speed is slower, more stately after a three-year, £35-million makeover into five-star spa hotel. The 10,000 sq ft spa boasts of a thermal suite as well as the usual treatment rooms, its own café, and two relaxation pools. Jazz and boozy snoozy and Sunday roasts are the attractions of the 100-cover restaurant. Tariff From £120 (for the Wee Classics). Contact 0141-2488888, townhousecompany.com
Pared-down pubbing: Babbity Bowster
For all its bawdy moniker — after an old-fashioned dance referring to bobbing and a bolster — these five en-suite rooms above the pub are surprisingly clean. The 1790 Robert Adam building still buzzes in its restored and soused Merchant City avatar. Live music is the other big draw. The attached restaurant serves excellent Scottish fare — everything from stovies and Cullen skink to trendy little sliders.Tariff £65 (doubles). Contact 0141-5525055, babbitybowster.com
