Indore’s street food is centred around Chhappan Dukaan, literally 56 shops, during the
day time. In the evening, the jewellery shops of Sarafa close after the day’s business is done, and the narrow streets are taken over by food stalls. The hungry masses come in droves late into the night for an array of snacks—deep fried garadu (sweet potato), poha, sabudana khichdi, dahi bada, bhutte ka kees, kachori, samosa, chaats, jalebis and even desi pizzas and Maggi noodles. There are also traditional desserts like mawa-bati (similar to gulab jamun), khoprapak (coconut-based sweet), shrikhand, shikanji and malpua.
