Chowk Bazaar
Lined with old mosques and havelis, the vibrant market of Chowk Bazaar is located in
the old part of the city. One thing that you cannot miss here is Bhopali crafts including beadwork batuas, embroidered cushions, Chanderi saris, tussar silk and silver jewellery. The market is filled with authentic eateries which serve you delicious biryani and kebabs, Gulab Jamuns, Meva Bati and Shammi Kebabs.
At the centre of the main market area is Jama Masjid, which was built in 1837 and has gold spikes on minarets. You can also visit Shaukat Mahal, Sadar Manzil and Imam Square located near the market.
Narrow bylanes swarming with people is how one would describe Chowk Bazaar.
New Market
New Market is a relatively new establishment located towards south of the Upper Lake. The market has a huge Khedapati Hanuman Temple at the entrance. You will see shops, for hand-embroidered batuas, decorative items, dress material, footwear, and jewellery, swamped by buyers. You will see people queuing up in the lanes to enjoy delicious street foods like chana jor garam, samosas, or kaleji and kebabs at Hakeem Hotel. Be prepared to show your bargaining skills at this market.
