Majmars from Oman

You can’t go to Oman and not pick up some Frankincense and Myrrh. If you have any gold left over from this ex­travagance, you will want to buy an incense burner. Majmars, as they are fondly called in Oman, come in all sorts of quirky shapes, sizes and shades. Place the resin in the receptacle, throw a burning coal over it and you’re ready to roll. The tradition of pottery in Oman is thousands of years old and the flawless craftsmanship attests to that. The best stuff comes from Bahla, they say, but I just picked mine up from the airport. In fact, I got a pair, possibly because they reminded me of Irish coffee glasses. They did cost me OMR 3.500 apiece (`620). There go my savings—up in smoke; but a perfumed smoke, nevertheless.
