Journeys end in travellers buying souvenirs. Rarely does a journey begin with a relic. Or two. But if you’re chugging out of New Delhi Railway Station anytime soon, do stop by the brand new — but thoroughly quaint — ’Souvenir Shoppe’ on Platform 1 (that’s the Paharganj side). Beaming staff, eager to close a sale, peddle a long train of rail memorabilia — from mugs sporting old rail company logos to loco replicas that can’t wait to have pride of place on your mantelpiece to colouring pads for young trainspotters and paperweights that’ll look steaming good on any desk. I picked up this South Indian Railway mug (Rs 100) for a railway child but the jolly little paperweight (only Rs 60) is all mine.
