Singapore may not be a totalitarian state, but it’s sure as hell where the consumers of the world unite. So it didn’t take them long to figure out that Mao was a capital commodity. On my last visit, I found the souvenir stalls of Chinatown creaking under Mao memorabilia — usual suspects like bags and T-shirts — but also this charming deck of playing cards memorialising the Cultural Revolution. For a card-carrying shopaholic, it was a deal at S$6 (Rs 210).
