So what had the Commission said in its concluding statements about those accused – and now acquitted – in the 28-year-old case? Here are excerpts:
“The mobilization required logistical support for accommodating the incoming masses in tents and other shelters, providing food and other necessities for their boarding and lodging… In order to support the prerequisites for such a movement, the finances required were channeled from the coffers of the various Sangh Parivar organizations through various banks to accounts held in the names of various organizations and individuals… The RSS, BJP, VHP and also other members of the Sangh Parivar raised funds for conducting the movement from time to time. The recipient organizations were mostly the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, Bharat Kalyan Pratisthan, VHP, Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas Paduka Pujan Nidhi, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas Shri Ram Shila Pujan, Jan Hiteshi and the accounts were operated by Onkar Bhave, Mahant Paramhans Ramchander Das, Nritya Gopal Das, Gurjan Singh and Narad Saran, Acharya Giriraj Kishore, Vishnu Hari Dalmia, Nana Bhagwant, Jaswant Rai Gupta, BP Toshniwal, Sitaram Aggarwal, Ashok Singhal, Rameshwar Dayal, Prem Nath, Champat Rai, Surya Kishan, Yashvant Bhatt, Avdesh Kumar Das Shastri, etc.”
“The utilization of such huge monies is a categorical pointer to the planning and preplanning carried out for the entire process of the movement commencing with mobilization onwards right up till the very demolition itself. Prognosis of the evidence leads to the conclusion that the mobilizations of the karsevaks and their convergence to Ayodhya and Faizabad was neither spontaneous nor voluntary. It was well orchestrated and planned… The theory or the claim made by the leaders of the movement or the icons from political or social organizations does not carry conviction to conclude that the demolition was carried out by the karsevaks spontaneously out of sheer anger or emotions.”
