A video has emerged on social media that shows people taking cover as the ballistic missiles, fired by Iran, hit the airbases in Iraq that house the US troops.

A video, shot by a mobile phone, shows the missile approaching like lightning and then hits the base, where it appears like a ball of fire. The video captures the tense moment and how people there mumble prayers and run when the missiles hit the airbases.

At least 10 rockets hit the Al Asad airbase in central Iraq, where numerous US troops are stationed, in what appears to be the first retaliatory strike by Iran in the wake of the US drone strike that killed Iranian Quds Force commander General Qasem Soleimani last week in Baghdad.

The top Iranian leadership had vowed to avenge the killing of Soleimani and said that a 'harsh retaliation' was awaiting the US.

It is not yet known whether any casualties resulted from the missile strike or what kind of damage was sustained at the base. Furthermore, it is not known whether US anti-missile defences at the base were able to intercept any of the incoming missiles.
