Punjab Kings have defeated Chennai Super Kings for the fifth consecutive time and it is their second straight win this season. The spinners, Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar, put the brakes on CSK's innings and did not allow a single boundary in 7-15 over phase to CSK batters. The result was that despite a half-century from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK managed just 162. In reply, Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw killed the game within the first 10 overs and eventually Punjab Kings won the game by 7 wickets and 13 balls left. The woes continue for Mumbai Indians as they have now suffered their seventh defeat of IPL 2024 in 10 games. LSG on the other hand are going strong in the race of top four with six wins and four losses. KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl first. His bowlers proved him right as MI was reduced to 28/4 in the powerplay. The innings then could never take off and despite a strong 46 from Nehal Wadhera and a late flurry from Tim David, MI could only get to 144/7. The total was below par and LSG comfortably chased it winning by 4 wickets. Marcus Stoinis played another good hand at number 3 scoring a fine half-century and taking home the Player Of The Match trophy. At one point, it seemed we had another thriller on hand as RCB aimed to chase 201 against Gujarat Titans in match number 45 of the IPL 2024. With 53 needed from 36 balls, RCB were ahead but GT were still in the game but then Will Jacks exploded. RCB and largely Jacks hit 58 from the next two overs to kill the match and get to his maiden century in IPL. Kohli with his 69 laid the foundation of the win and Jacks finished in style. Earlier, GT had rode on fifties from Shahrukh Khan and Sai Sudharsan to get to 200/3. But as we now know, it was not enough. RCB have now their third win on board but they are still at the bottom while GT also remain at the seventh spot with four wins in 10 games. Another day another 500-run encounter in the IPL 2024. Hardik Pandya won the toss and invited Rishabh Pant's side to bat first as DC faced MI for the second time this season. Jake Fraser-McGurk equaled his own record of the fastest fifty of this season and scored a thunderous 27-ball 84 to give DC a flying start. Crucial contributions from Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs flew DC to their highest IPL score of 257. MI in reply lost both their openers and Suryakumar Yadav within the powerplay but did not go down without a fight. Tilak Verma scored a half-century, Hardik Pandya got a quick fourty and Tim David struck some big blows but all of it was not enough as DC won the game by 10 runs. In yesterday's IPL match, table-toppers Rajasthan Royals made quick work of Mumbai Indians beating them by 9 wickets. Hardik Pandya decided to bat first after winning the toss but Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma picked three wickets in the powerplay to put MI on the backfoot. Nehal Wadhera and Tilak Varma played impactful knocks to bring MI back in the game but Sandeep Sharma completed his fifer with three wickets in the final over to restrict MI to 179/9. Then, an out of form Yashasvi Jaiswal took matters in his hands and scored his second IPL century to take RR to 14 points on the table, 4 more than the second-placed KKR.
