Neha Dhupia: I Want To Continue Staying Relevant, Having A Voice And Using It In The Right Direction

Neha Dhupia, who has always shared her views on topics relevant to the society, is happy to be in a position where she can start a conversation.

Neha Dhupia is one Bollywood actress who has always been vocal about issues that cater to females, be it about weight or sharing equal parenting responsibilities. She is now busy promoting Nickelodeon India’s latest campaign - Together For Good, which aims at teaching the children that they proudly let the world know that they are #OneOfAKind.

Talking about being a change in the society, Neha told Outlook exclusively, “I feel when you are trying to have a conversation or start a dialogue, it takes one person to kick start it. So, I am happy that I am in a position where I can start that dialogue. Nickelodeon has given me that opportunity to speak about something that’s close to my heart. Also, five years ago, when we were pregnant and we had Mehr, we did talk about not putting my child under any kind of pressure. And after five years, here I am, talking about it because I genuinely believe in it even as a parent. So one day, we hope we make a big difference.”

Speaking about the campaign, she said, “#OneOfAKind is definitely a topic that needs to be discussed now because it sparks a conversation not only for raising your children and understanding their uniqueness, but it also takes away from the pressure we put our children under.”

Neha says that being a mother of two to daughter Mehr and son Guriq, she instils the same views in her children too. “We instil the same values in our children by realising that we are not going to raise them under the shadow of comparison but by understanding that they are really #OneOfAKind, and by building a nest of love, trust and communication. Also, by not putting them any sort of academic or performance pressure,” she said.

Meanwhile, she has been in the showbiz for almost two decades now after making her Bollywood debut in 2002. So what is she craving to do today? And she quipped, “I feel like I'm continuing to do what I have always done because I don’t know better. Also, continuation of staying relevant, having a voice and using it in the right direction. Also, expansion. I have dabbled into production a little bit, hopefully, now my kids are slightly older, to branch out a bit.”
