SBS has responded to the controversy over Best Couple Award at the SBS Drama Awards. The network has released a statement to clear the air.
After the controversy that erupted around the criteria of choosing the Best Couple at the 2023 SBS Drama Awards, SBS has come forward to put an end to all the chatter. The broadcasting company has come forward with a statement and has revealed how the Best Couple is selected.
After the voting ended, the broadcasting network released a statement that revealed that the Best Couple was chosen from several other factors and not just the online vote. SBS said, “Aside from the online voting results, the Best Couple award is also determined based on the votes of each drama’s production team, the internal votes of SBS and Studio S employees, viewership ratings, online buzz, and other factors. The results will be announced during the live broadcast of the 2023 SBS Drama Awards.”
The online voting was organized from December 18-27. The nominees for the awards were Ryeoun and Shin Ye Eun from ‘The Secret Romantic Guesthouse’, Ahn Hyo Seop and Lee Sung Kyung from ‘Dr Romantic 3’, and Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung from ‘My Demon.’ After the votes, ‘My Demon’ couple emerged as the clear winner with nearly thrice the votes that were received by the couple in the second place.
Earlier it was reported that Song Kang would not be attending the awards. Fans speculated that SBS had changed the rules because of his absence. However, SBS also added, “The criteria for the Best Couple award have been the same every year, and we put them in writing this year because we’d received many inquiries about the award criteria. We would be grateful if you would tune in to the broadcast to see the award results.”
The results of the Best Couple will be announced at the 2023 SBS Drama Awards which will take place on December 29.
