Shirin Sewani is expecting soon. The actress opens up about upcoming motherhood, her reaction to the news of her pregnancy, her planning for the baby and everything else associated with it.
Shirin Sewani, who has been part of web series like ‘Taj Mahal 1989’, ‘Beauty Spot’, ‘LSV’, ‘16’, ‘Backpackers’, ‘Dev DD’, ‘Only For Singles’, and ‘Rafuchakkar’, recently found out that she was expecting her first baby. Shirin Sewani says that she couldn’t believe herself.
“So, the first reaction was disbelief. At least, I can speak for myself; I was not ready to believe it. Has this actually happened? Like, okay, am I going to be a mother? Mother? Because I have always thought that I am a kid, and now I will raise a kid. So, yeah, that was the reaction,” she says.
She adds, “I don’t believe in philosophies or any specific pattern. I just feel that the only thing I believe in is that they will do what you show them. Whatever you want your kid to be, just demonstrate that. If you want your kid to be kind, just be kind. If you want your kid to be disciplined, you have to be disciplined. So, I have to basically work on myself. This is the only thing that I’ve thought of—work on yourself. Show your kids what you want them to be. Do that, and they’ll follow you.”
Ask her how she is preparing her home for the little one, and she says, “We have set up a baby room in our house, and of course, I’m planning to have a baby shower on the 28th, which is my birthday. So, I’m sure all my friends and family are also prepping and shopping. I’m keeping my list reserved because I thought, let me see the gifts that I’m getting, then I’ll shop because there’s no point in having two of the same things. So, all that has started, and it is an extremely cute feeling because all the things that I see for the babies and all, are so cute. So, I just feel like it’s adorable.”
Talking about the most challenging part of pregnancy. “I haven’t faced any major challenges. My pregnancy has been quite smooth. The only effort that I had to make was to ensure that I was working constantly, which is not much because, touchwood, things kept happening. So, I was working and just enjoying eating and everything.”
She adds, “So, I’m not thinking much. I am not planning much. I’m keeping myself busy with other things so that I don’t think a lot and I don’t get anxious about other things. On the other hand, excitement comes very naturally. Obviously, I’m a little nervous in my head, but I am just feeding my mind like that. To be honest, I’m playing that ‘All is well’ card. Just keep saying, ‘All is well’.”
Talking about sharing responsibilities at home, she says, “As my husband is a pilot, I am already prepared that it will not be very easy for him to balance equally between work and the baby because obviously, his work requires him to be there a lot more. And obviously, the fluctuating flight patterns and everything. He himself doesn’t know how things will be. But he has secured some ops, and he’ll be home for a while, and of course, my mom will be around, and my mother-in-law will be around. One thing I’m very sure of is that my husband will be a very good father because I think he has it in him. He’ll be very supportive. I don’t doubt that. Also, I expect that it is fine if sometimes he’s not there, and I am doing it because when he’s there, I know that he’ll be there 100%. So that is how we are deciding to maintain a balance.”
