The Color Purple: Meet the cast of musical adaptation set to be out on December 25

The Colour Purple 2023 musical adaptation is all set to be out on December 25, 2023. The musical cast includes Ciara, Danielle Brooks, Halle Bailey, H.E.R., and Colman Domingo among many others

Another adaptation of The Colour Purple, the well-known book by Alice Walker, is now underway.The cast consists of many American singers and actors including Fantasia Taylor as Celie, Colman Domingo as Mister, Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, Danielle Brooks as Sofia, Halle Bailey as Nettie, Corey Hawkins as Harpo, and H.E.R as Squeak and many more.

The main character, Celie Harris, will be portrayed by Fantasia Taylor in The Colour Purple. Given that she previously played Celie in the 2007 Broadway adaptation and is the singer on the 2010 musical album, which includes the songs from the musical, her involvement in the movie has special relevance for Broadway fans.
Halle Bailey plays the role of Young Nettie, who is Celie's younger sister. Akosua Busia portrayed Nettie in the first film. Bailey portrays Disney Princess Ariel in the title role in The Little Mermaid,  which is also a live-action production.
The adult Nettie in the upcoming musical movie is played by Ciara. After it was revealed that Halle Bailey will play the younger version of the character, she was added to the cast.
Danielle Brooks reprises the role of Sofia, which she first played from 2015 to 2017 on Broadway and for which she received a Tony Award nomination. Sofia was memorably portrayed by Oprah Winfrey in the original 1985 movie. 
Shug Avery, a jazz and blues singer, is a part initially played by Margaret Avery in Steven Spielberg's 1985 movie and Elisabeth Withers-Mendes in the play adaptation. Taraji P. Henson now fills this position. 
Known for his appearances in the first two seasons of HBO's Euphoria, Colman Domingo takes on the part of Mister. The role was initially performed by Danny Glover in the film adaptation by Steven Spielberg. 
Corey Hawkins plays the role of Harpo, which was previously played by Willard E. Pugh in the 1985 movie and Brandon Victor Dixon in the stage version.
Squeak is played by H.E.R. in the musical film version of The Colour Purple. Squeak plays the part of a juke-joint waitress and singer who is involved romantically with her boss, Harpo.
The theatrical debut of The Colour Purple (Musical) produced by Oprah Winfrey is slated for December 25, 2023 and fans can’t wait to watch the musical as well as the performance by this star-studded cast.
