Water plays an essential role in either creating tattoo ink or diluting it. Usually, tattoo artists use water to dilute the tattoo ink to give the client their desired shade.
Ink manufacturers and tattoo artists may believe that using distilled or reverse osmosis water (a filtration method that removes large particles) is sufficient to safely create or dilute tattoo inks, but this is incorrect. The ink can be contaminated by any kind of non-sterile water, resulting in infections in those tattooed with it.
