BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Defends Against Sexual Harassment Allegations, Rejects Media Trial

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a Lok Sabha MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Wrestling Federation of India chief, took a defiant stance on Thursday, addressing the sexual harassment allegations leveled against him by some women wrestlers. Asserting that a media trial should not be conducted in the matter, he maintained that he would refrain from commenting on the issue as it is sub-judice.

Speaking to reporters, Singh emphasized the need to respect the court's direction against conducting a media trial and stressed that the truth should be presented before the court. He displayed his confidence by questioning the effect of the allegations on his face, seemingly undeterred by the accusations. according to PTI.

During an event held by the Karni Sena to commemorate the 31st death anniversary of former Union minister Kalyan Singh Kalvi, Singh addressed the gathering and shared his perspective on the allegations. He acknowledged facing an attack on his reputation several months ago but asserted that he refused to let any embarrassment or weakness show on his face.

Responding to queries about his exclusion from the electoral college for the upcoming Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) polls, the MP attributed it to his own decision, without elaborating further.

Notably, Singh also urged the crowd not to chant slogans against certain wrestlers who had previously staged protests against him concerning the sexual harassment allegations. During his address, he recited poems by renowned poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and others.

The Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on June 15, charging him under sections 354, 354A, 354D, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for alleged assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation. The six-time MP vehemently denied the allegations, maintaining his innocence in the face of legal proceedings.
