Ongoing unrest stemming from recent communal clashes has prompted authorities to take preventive measures to curb the spread of inflammatory content and rumors, as well as to maintain peace and public order.
Tensions continue to grip Nuh, Haryana, as the state government prolongs the suspension of mobile internet and SMS services until Sunday, citing ongoing critical and tense conditions. The unrest stems from communal clashes that have left a total of six casualties, including two home guards and a cleric, in their wake. The violence ignited over attempts to halt a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession, subsequently spreading to Gurugram.
Haryana's Home Minister, Anil Vij, revealed that 393 individuals have been arrested and 118 subjected to preventive detention in connection with the recent communal disturbances. The government has registered 160 FIRs across various districts including Nuh, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, Rewari, Panipat, Bhiwani, and Hisar, as reported by PTI.
Opposition parties within the state have vehemently criticized the BJP-JJP dispensation, attributing the Nuh violence to governance failures.
The decision to extend the mobile internet suspension aims to maintain peace and public order, as noted in a statement by Haryana's Additional Chief Secretary (Home) T V S N Prasad. While exemptions are in place for essential services such as individual SMS, banking alerts, mobile recharges, and voice calls, bulk SMS, dongle services, and certain mobile internet functions have been curtailed within Nuh district to curb the dissemination of inflammatory content and false rumors.
