‘800’ trailer is finally out! The movie is based on the life of former Sri Lankan cricketer Muthiah Muralidharan. The trailer was launched on September 5 by Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in Mumbai. He was accompanied by Muralidharan and former Sri Lankan cricketer and captain Sanath Jayasuriya. '800' trailer shows the life events of the legendary Sri Lankan spinner. Madhurr Mittal of 'Slumdog Millionaire' fame is playing the veteran off-spinner and he has brought his story to life on screen.
Muthiah is a Tamilian by birth. '800' delves into his professional and personal life. The biopic is titled '800' in honour of the 800 test wickets he has taken.
The trailer starts by giving us glimpses of the events that took place in Sri Lanka during the 1970s when the minority Tamils were targeted and the challenges they had to face. A voiceover says, “For someone who hails from a group of migrant labourers, getting recognised as a citizen itself is very tough''. We see a young man wearing a white cricket jersey and kneeling before an armed army personnel who holds him at gunpoint. In the trailer, we also see how Muttiah was taunted for 'chucking'.

In real life, the off-spinner had to undergo lots of scrutiny and extensive tests for his bowling action especially for 'no-ball'. As he is a man of few words, he didn't reply back and shut down the critics by showing his talent in the field.
Muralidharan represented his country, Sri Lanka in 133 Tests, 350 ODIs and 12 T20 Internationals. He took 800 wickets in the longest format, 534 in the ODIs and 13 in the T20s. He was also part of Sri Lanka's ODI World Cup triumph in 1996.
Written and directed by MS Sripathy, '800' will be released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Mahima Nambiar will play the onscreen wife of Madhurr Mittal. It also stars Nassar, Vela Ramamoorthy, Riythvika, Vadivukkarasi, Arul Das, and others in pivotal roles.
