Americans claim Indians are obsessed with Pakistan. What about the American babu obsession? The "India-Pak" hyphen? It's a lazy paradigm, a bad legacy. Time to get over it, and move on.
The Americans need a strong India as a counterweight to the unmentioned gorilla in the equation -- China. Pakistan fits in as a bridge to China in the future and a few F-16s to keep them happy is a small price for a big project.
